OCTOBER IS
RENEWAL MONTH!

Renewal Begins this Weekend!

THE YEAR OF ST. PAUL
June 28, 2008 – June 29, 2009

In order to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth, Christians all over the world will celebrate “the Year of St. Paul”. St Paul was together with Saint Peter and James the Just, the most notable of early Christian missionaries. Unlike the Twelve Apostles, there is no indication Paul ever met Jesus before the latter’s crucifixion. Fourteen epistles in the New Testament are traditionally attributed to Paul. Paul’s influence on Christian thinking has been more significant than any other New Testament author. To give you an idea of the great distance this Saint traveled by foot and boat in the time right after Christ’s Resurrection, here is a list of his journeys.

First Missionary Journey: Antioch in Syria to Seleucia, Cyprus, and modern-day Turkey, and then returning to Antioch

Second Missionary Journey: Antioch in Syria again, Turkey, Greece and back to Turkey, Caesarea and Jerusalem, before returning to Antioch.

Third Missionary Journey: Antioch, Turkey, Greece, back to Turkey, then to Tyre, Ptolemais, Caesarea, and Jerusalem.

Paul’s journeys were many and at times his difficulties must have seemed insurmountable. How do we face difficulties in our own lives? Are we focused on living our lives or living our Faith, as St. Paul did? Are we allowing Christ to live in our daily lives, beyond Sunday Mass? This is what Renewal Month has been about. Where am I in my relationship with God, the Church, and my parish? Do I just come to church on Sunday, and then get lost in the many distractions of daily life, or do I carry that Faith into my family, my job, and my personal decisions? Am I a member of the Catholic Church, or am I a Disciple of Jesus Christ? Do I say I believe, but live differently? Is my faith superficial with little to no involvement, or do I make a sincere attempt to have an impact on others about my faith? Do I take time to reflect upon the areas that I need to improve, or do I keep coming up with “reasons” why I can’t? May we spend this jubilee year of St. Paul rising to the challenge of the great Apostle’s exemplary perspective and actions?

MINISTRY FAIR / PARISH COOKOUT

Father Elifaite St. Fort, and Mr. Tomasz Bochnak, Seminarian
Fr. Eli (r), Congratulations from us all!
He's with Mr. Tomasz Bochnak, Seminarian

On November 24th, 2004 the late Pope John Paul II blessed six Monstrances for use during the Year of the Eucharist to invite people to pray for an increase of vocations to ordained ministry and consecrated life. The Monstrances were designated for Eucharistic adoration for vocations for each major continent or geographical area around the world as a symbol of the connection between the Eucharist and priestly vocations. We are blessed to have been chosen to have the Monstrance come to our parish on Thursday, October 30th, at 6:00 p.m. Please come, and invite your friends, for an hour of adoration to pray for vocations, peace, and healing. There have been many reports around the country of healing during adoration and also a significant increase of vocations in the dioceses that have received the Monstrance.

REGISTERED IN PARISH?

Many believe because they were born and baptized in this parish, they are automatically registered. If you are an adult and no longer living at home, you are NOT registered in the parish unless you have completed a parish registration form. If you want your child to attend our school, CCD classes, sacramental prep programs, or need a sponsor/godparent certificate, parish registration will be required. Registration is also your affirmation that you are willing to receive the spiritual goods the church offers and willing to respond generously with your time, talent, and treasure, to the needs of the parish community.

GOING INTO THE HOSPITAL?

Please remember to call the Church office at 567-5129 if you need to arrange a visit from a priest while you are in the hospital. If you would like to receive the Eucharist while in the hospital or at home recovering, please call the Neighborhood Apostolate office at 567-5193. If you know you are going to the hospital and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick before major surgery, you may receive the sacrament during the 8:30 a.m. Mass on the first Saturday of the month.
